Townes Van Zandt – Flyin’ Shoes (1978)
One of the beautiful things about music is that you can enjoy it even more when you share it with others.
In the mid-80s, I was working in the duty-free shops at Schiphol Airport, alongside my colleague, friend, and fellow music enthusiast Peter Verdonschot.
One workday, he surprised me with this album, and I’ve always kept the accompanying note with it.
Townes Van Zandt was already on one of my many checklists, but thanks to this album, I could immediately move him to my list of music heroes.
Other artists I got to know thanks to “De Peet” during my Schiphol years included Peter Case, The Del Fuegos, Jeffrey Comanor, Terence Boylan, Rare Bird, and Lloyd Cole & The Commotions. Thanks again, Peet.
